South Korea and the United States have agreed to strengthen cooperation in dealing with security threats in space.
The Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Park Il, the ministry's Director-general for Nonproliferation and Nuclear Affairs, and Eric Desautels, Director of Office of Emerging Security Challenges and Defense Policy at the Department of State, held a fourth South Korea-U.S. Space Policy Dialogue in Washington on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the two sides agreed to strengthen “comprehensive and systematic” bilateral cooperation regarding space security that involves civilian, government and military sectors.
They also discussed threats that hinder the peaceful use of outer space and efforts to foster a safe, secure and sustainable space environment. They exchanged ideas on establishing multilateral norms to contain such threats.
The fifth dialogue session will be held in Seoul next year.
